2004 Entente Cordiale £5

In 2004, The Royal Mint issued a £5 coin to mark the centenary of the Entente Cordiale.

The Entente Cordiale was a series of agreements signed on 8 April 1904 between the United Kingdom and France, marking an end of nearly a millennium of intermittent conflict between the nations.

The French term Entente Cordiale which translates to cordial agreement or understanding, originates from a letter written by the British Foreign Secretary Lord Aberdeen to his brother in which he mentioned a 'cordial understanding between the UK and France'.

The reverse of this coin depicts the head and shoulders of Britannia and her French counterpart Marianne.

This coin is no longer available from The Royal Mint and, due to the difficulty in sourcing this issue, stocks are incredibly limited.
