Edward was born 12 October 1537, to Henry VIII and Jane Seymour.
His mother died soon after his birth.
Edward was the only male heir to Henry VIII, and was groomed to
become king from an early age.
Edward had two half-sisters, Mary and Elizabeth, who were both
declared illegitimate by his father.
When his father died in 1947, Edward became king at the age of
nine. The government was entrusted to his uncle the Duke of
Somerset, and then to John Dudley, Earl of Northumberland
Under Edward's rule, England, became avidly Protestant. This was
mainly because of the influence of his main advisor, the extremely
Protestant John Dudley. Edward was advised to do many things by
John Dudley.
When it became clear Edward was dying from tuberculosis,
Northumberland encouraged Edward to change his will to make sure
his half-sisters did not inherit the throne when he died.
Northumberland suggested a new order of succession, with Lady
Jane Grey, his daughter-in-law, as heir to the throne instead of
Mary, Edward's half-sister. He convinced Edward to keep England
under Protestant rule.
Edward was never a strong child, and died at the age of 15.
