The Siege of Vienna Silver Pair
Today, you have the incredible opportunity to secure two Silver coins from the first Siege of Vienna! Here's what makes them so unique...
The Siege of Vienna was the first attempt by the Ottoman Empire to capture the capital city of Vienna, Austria, Holy Roman Empire.
Sultan Suleiman (ruler of the Ottoman Empire) and Archduke Ferdinand I (King of Hungary) played a crucial role in history during the First Siege of Vienna. For two weeks, the Ottoman army held the town of Vienna to a siege.
They were outnumbered by 5 to 1. Remarkably, Ferdinand I and his army survived the siege, but it paved the way for 150 years of military tension between the two empires.
As you can imagine, historic artefacts from this time are incredibly hard to come by, particularly in the UK markets.
We have been able to source a small number of silver coins, close to 500 years old – one from either side of the siege.
Both coins are from the time of the first Siege of Vienna and have been specially curated by experts in this impressive collection.
Each is presented in tamperproof numismatic capsules, complete with a certificate of authenticity.
