Extremely limited UK coin - the Rosalind Franklin Silver Piedfort 50p

Six years ago, this British coin disappeared.

To mark the 100th anniversary of Rosalind Franklin's birth, and to celebrate her legacy, The Royal Mint authorised this UK Silver Proof Piedfort 50p.

Struck from .925 silver to an immaculate proof finish this 50p coin was designed by David Knapton and features the famous Photograph 51 that led Franklin to her discovery that DNA has a double helix structure.

Visually Piedforts are a real talking point. They are struck on superior double-thickness blanks and finished to the very highest proof quality. Double the thickness means they are double the weight of the Silver Proof issue and contain double the amount of silver.

Just 23 available

Significantly, JUST 1,500 of these coins were made available worldwide.

Unsurprisingly, the coin quickly disappeared at The Royal Mint and we sold 262 of them to eager Westminster collectors. That was the end of it. Until a recent review of our vault where we discovered just 23 examples of this stunning coin.

Now, for the first time in 6 years, this coin is available again. But with just 23 available, they won't be around for long.
