Scarce Silver Piedfort £5 Coin issued to celebrate Alfred the Great’s coronation

To mark the 1,150th anniversary of Alfred the Great’s coronation and his legacy, The Royal Mint has authorised for a prestigious BRAND NEW UK £5 Silver Piedfort Coin to be issued.

Importantly, this is the oldest anniversary to ever be celebrated on a UK coin! This will make it highly desirable for years to come.

John Bergdahl’s reverse design is inspired by the priceless Anglo-Saxon relic The Alfred Jewel. This is amongst the most significant Royal relics to have ever been discovered and and now's your chance to own this piece of British history.

Pinnacle of The Royal Mint’s craftsmanship

Piedforts are visual talking points and the pinnacle of The Royal Mint’s craftsmanship. They are highly-sought after amongst serious collectors for several reasons:

  • Twice the weight and thickness of a regular silver proof coin.
  • Struck from double the amount of .925 silver to a perfect proof finish.
  • Low edition limits resulting in some of the fastest sell-out rates around.

And it’s certainly the edition limit of this coin that will have collectors rushing to secure it…

Scarce new issue – JUST 900 available worldwide

Remarkably, The Royal Mint has authorised JUST 900 coins to be issued worldwide in this limited edition presentation.

This will surely not be enough to meet demand. Just look at the King Canute Silver £5 Piedfort Coin –also issued to mark his coronation but with a higher edition limit of 1,500 – it completely sold out at the Mint!
