In 2006, The Flying Scotsman entered a massive restoration project, which wasn’t completed until 2016. From this restoration, several bronze axle boxes that were stamped with ‘103’ – the number that adorned The Flying Scotsman in post-war years – were replaced, and the originals were melted down into ingots.
Now, these very same bronze ingots that once adorned The Flying Scotsman and covered hundreds of thousands of miles, have been cast into miniature sculptures of the train itself, and expertly mounted onto a commemorative that would be the perfect centrepiece to anyone’s collection.
