Brand new UK £5 Piedfort to celebrate Queen Victoria

Brand new UK £5 Piedfort to celebrate Queen Victoria

As one of the United Kingdom’s best-known and most respected monarchs, Queen Victoria's remarkable reign oversaw huge technological advancements and Britain’s momentous transformation from a thriving merchant class to one of the most industrialised nations in the world.

And, significantly, this year marks the 200th Anniversary of her birth.

To celebrate her legacy and commemorate this important time in our nation’s history, a brand new United Kingdom £5 has been authorised for release.

The Royal Mint has released a number of precious metal versions of the new £5. But there is one particular coin that stands out above all others. That’s the Silver Proof Piedfort issue.

UK 2019 Queen Victoria £5 Piedfort

There are several factors which set this Piedfort apart from all other issues, and makes it one of the most collectible coins around.

Visually it is a real talking point. Struck on a superior double-thickness blank in Sterling Silver, the coin has been finished to the very highest proof quality. Double the thickness means it is double the weight of the Silver Proof issue and contains double the amount of Silver.

The reverse features a design by John Bergdahl, which is a real nod to the bustle of Victorian life, churning with industry and progress. It also incorporates an interpretation of the classic portrait of a youthful Victoria.

Extremely limited edition

What’s perhaps more important though, than its size, is its edition limit. Piedforts are coveted for their low edition limits, and this issue is no different with a tiny edition limit of just 1,500 – that’s a third of the edition limit of the standard Silver Proof issue.

This is a low edition limit for any new issue, and considering the historical importance of Queen Victoria’s reign, it will add even further to the interest amongst knowledgeable collectors. Expect a very swift sell out.

Even more so when you consider the last £5 Royal commemorative Piedfort – the 2018 Royal Wedding £5 Piedfort – with a higher edition limit of 2,018 COMPLETELY SOLD OUT at The Royal Mint.

The good news is you can add this coin to your collection today with a deposit of just £35 (+ p&p), followed by 4 further interest-free instalments.
