The original Easter coin – own a genuine Victorian Maundy Penny

The tradition of our reigning monarch handing out ‘Maundy’ money dates back over 300 years.

The first Maundy money ceremony took place in the reign of Charles II, when the King gave people undated hammered coins in 1662. The tradition continues to this day, with Her Majesty handing these coins each Easter to elderly men and women, chosen because of the Christian service they have given to the Church and the community.

These coins not only hold huge historical significance, but they are also issued in extremely low numbers. Now today you have the chance to secure a genuine Silver Maundy Penny issued during the reign of Queen Victoria.

Maundy coins are amongst the rarest Victorian coins you can find because:

  • They were never issued for general circulation
  • Their mintage numbers are so low
  • Demand for them has been high since the day they were issued

We have managed to secure a limited number of Victorian Silver Maundy Pennies in preparation for Maundy Thursday this year. However, these coins are well over 100 years old and are extremely scarce – so you’ll need to act now to secure this piece of Easter history.
