50 years ago, on the 20th July 1969, Neil Armstrong stepped foot onto the Moon’s surface. With the whole world watching he was the first man ever to do so.
Now 50 years on, a brand new British Isles £5 coin has been issued to mark one of mankind’s greatest ever achievements, and it’s been given a unique finish – The 50th Anniversary of the Moon Landing Black Proof £5.
Stunning Black Proof Finish – a collecting FIRST
What makes this coin so special is the fact it has been struck in 28.28g of 925/1000 Sterling Silver with a unique black proof finish. This is an extremely rare finish to feature on any coins and the FIRST TIME we have seen it on a new British Isles Issue.
The reverse design features the Eagle Lunar Module upon the Moon’s surface with Earth in the background. Both have been selectively coloured, contrasting magnificently against the black proof finish. The immortal words “One Giant Leap for Mankind – 20 July 1969” circle the reverse.
