Special release from The East India Company
In 1895 the British Trade Dollar was introduced following the need for British Merchants to trade freely in the Orient without having to rely on the supply of foreign silver coins. It was minted to mirror the specification of the Spanish Dollar. This magnificent coin was to become a symbol of the vast British trade with the Orient and was minted exclusively for the use in the Far East.
