The obverse features Glyn Davies’ portrait of King Charles III with the reverse, by Bill Dady and Matt Tindall, featuring two legends of the air, the Supermarine Spitfire and the Hawker Hurricane.
The specific Hawker Hurricane on show, the P2725, famously defended London against a German Dornier which was aiming to crash into Buckingham Palace. Having run out of bullets, the Hurricane rammed the German plane, causing it to crash before it reached the Palace.
