Each year in partnership with the Royal British Legion, we release a special ‘Masterpiece’ coin for Remembrance.
And each year our designers work hard to outdo the previous year’s edition. And this year’s coin is one that we’re really proud of.
Creating a Masterpiece…
The Masterpiece coin has been struck from 5oz of fine 999/1000 Silver and is an impressive 65mm in diameter. But what really makes this coin stand out is the stylized Royal British Legion poppy that proudly sits on top of it.
That’s because each one is truly unique. Every coin has been individually hand-painted by our own in house artist Adam Taylor. Most colour these days is printed using high-speed pad-printing machines or using modern UV printing techniques. In contrast, Adam has used traditional model-painting on the coins, which means each coin has unique brush-strokes and subtle differences in colour application.
But it’s also the striking that sets this coin apart from others.
Struck in .999 Silver to an impressive high relief finish, this year’s Masterpiece has been created using different heights of relief to give depth to the design. A map of the Falklands can be seen on the bottom layer of the coin, with a total of 40 poppies poignantly sitting a top to mark the 40th Anniversary of the Falklands Conflict.
