Maundy Money is one of Britain’s oldest royal traditions, dating back to the 13th century. Specially-struck Maundy coins have been issued since the reign of Charles II, with the familiar four-coin dated sets first appearing in 1670.
Each set includes the traditional four denominations - fourpence, threepence, twopence and penny - all struck in Sterling Silver by the Royal Mint.
Traditionally distributed by the monarch on Maundy Thursday, the number of recipients matches the monarch’s age and honours service to the Church and community.
