An unsung hero at the time, her Early Jurassic reptile discoveries along the Jurassic Coast have helped scientists identify and understand mighty creatures that once ruled the seas and skies.

Now, The Royal Mint has just released of a BRAND NEW UK 50p series celebrating three of her greatest discoveries.

The SECOND reptile to feature in The Mary Anning Collection is the Plesiosaurus – a marine reptile as large as 4.5 metres with fins that it used to swim through the water.

The creature on this 50p has been designed by renowned British palaeo-artist Robert Nicholls, with expert guidance by the Earth Sciences Department of the Natural History Museum.
