2021 Portugal Sports 2 Euro

Originally due to be released in 2020 to celebrate Portugal’s participation in the Olympic Games, collectors have had to wait a whole year to get their hands on this 2 Euro coin.

That’s because its release was delayed in line with the Tokyo Olympic Games due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the long wait is now over and collectors of Olympic-themed coins will be delighted at the chance to add this brand new release to their collection.

The reverse design depicts the official logo of the Olympic Committee of Portugal, alongside the inscription "Portugal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics", with an outer ring made up from the 12 stars of the European Union.

The Olympic Collecting Trend

As the world’s biggest sporting event, it’s no surprise that the Olympic Games should be celebrated on coins. And as a theme, the Olympics have inspired many to take up the hobby of collecting, with the 2012 UK 50p series proving to be some of the most collected 50ps ever issued.

Whilst these 50ps were released in relatively low mintage figures, making them incredibly sought-after, this new 2 Euro Sports coin has a mintage figure less than half that of our rarest UK Sports 50p!

What’s more, with the worldwide excitement surrounding the Tokyo Olympic Games, demand for coins such as this is bound to be high.
