Built by William the Conqueror to proclaim and defend his royal power, the Tower of London has stood on the banks of the River Thames for more than 1,000 years.

Every evening the Chief Yeoman Warder oversees the Ceremony of the Keys at the Tower of London.

This is a ritual dating from the reign of Edward III and involves the ceremonial locking of the gates. No unwanted victors can pass the Tower between dusk and dawn.

The Design

The reverse design depicts keys and a lamp, which are central to the ceremony, overlapping with a section of the Tower’s walls.

This is the fourth and final coin in The Royal Mint’s Tower of London £5 series.

When all four coins are put together the small section of the Tower’s walls engraved on each coin will create a plan of the Tower of London.

The obverse shows a portrait of Her Majesty the Queen by Royal Mint engraver, Jody Clark.

Brilliant Uncirculated Condition

As you would expect with such a special coin, this £5 has been struck to Brilliant Uncirculated quality – the Collector’s favourite.

It has also been carefully encapsulated in official Change Checker packaging with that all important hologram, guaranteeing its quality.
