The Last 'Lira' Coins of Italy

The Last 'Lira' Coins of Italy

The Italian 'Lira' was the currency of Italy before the Euro was introduced in 2002.

This eight coin set features every denomination from Italy that was still in circulation before the ‘Lira’ ceased to exist as a currency.

  • 5 Lire – The design features a Dolphin along with the face value on the reverse and a rudder on the obverse.
  • 10 Lire – The design features a Plough on the obverse and two ears of wheat on the reverse.
  • 20 Lire – The obverse features a head with wheat sprigs within the hair. The reverse design of a branch of oak leaves divides the value and date.
  • 50 Lire – The design features a grapevine on the reverse and a woman’s head on the obverse.
  • 100 Lire – Features the value of the coin with a bird in flight at the top, a dolphin at the bottom, an olive branch on the left, and a wheat stalk on the right.
  • 200 Lire – The design displays an ornate "Carabinieri - Protectors of Art Heritage" art piece, which features a grenade in flames and a David statue. Underneath the image is the lettering: CARABINIERI TUTELA PATRIMONIO ARTISTICO.
  • 500 Lire – Depicts an image of a hand holding stalks of wheat, and a stylised number 20 made out of wheat. The design commemorates the 20th anniversary of the International Fund for Agricultural Development, 1978-1998.
  • 1000 Lire – Features a map of Europe which shows the Federal Republic of Germany, known as West Germany, to commemorate a united Germany and the European Union.

These artistic coins reflect the history of Italy and Europe as a whole, making the complete set a collectable historical collection and an interesting addition to any Change Checker collection.

Your set will also arrive protectively encapsulated within an information card.
