2020 UK The Infamous Prison CERTIFIED BU £5

The fourth and final coin in the incredibly popular 2020 Tower of London £5 Collection has been released, exploring the more gruesome aspects of the Tower’s history.

When all four coins issued for 2020 come together, they will be unified by the Norman arched window design, reminiscent of the Tower itself. And, excitingly, each coin will also feature an exclusive Mint Mark seen only on Tower of London coins.

The Infamous Prison

Over the centuries, the Tower of London has been a prison to both monarchs and commoners alike, with notorious and famous historical figures including Anne Boleyn, Guy Fawkes and even Princess Elizabeth — later crowned Elizabeth I.

Now, the fearsome history of the infamous prison and all those who were “sent to the Tower” has been brought to life on this new UK coin, designed by Tim Noad.

This new release features the inscription ‘MY LIBERTIE DENIED’ which has been taken from carved ‘graffiti’ in the Beauchamp Tower attributed to the prisoner Thomas Miagh.
