2016 marked the 350th Anniversary of The Great Fire of London. Starting in a bakery in Pudding Lane, the devastating fire blazed for four days. It destroyed virtually all of the old walled City of London, taking with it the homes of 70,000 residents.
Its legacy was much more than the nursery rhyme our children and grandchildren still sing today. It was Christopher Wren’s London – the very backbone of our beautiful capital city today.
To mark the anniversary, the United Kingdom issued a Silver £2 coin. It features an intricate design of the London skyline, depicting the view of the fire from one of the riverboats that people relied on for safety during the fire. The obverse features the fifth portrait of Her Majesty the Queen by Jody Clark.
Struck by The Royal Mint to a stunning proof finish, it is the only official UK coin to mark the anniversary. Your coin will arrive ready to display in its Royal Mint Presentation Case with Certificate of Authenticity.
