Fencing Olympic 50p

This coin was issued as part of a series of 29 Olympic 50ps in commemoration of London 2012, with each 50p featuring a different Olympic Sport.

Fencing is a combat sport using three blade weapons; foil, sabre and epee. It is one of only four sports that have featured at every modern Olympic Games.

Ruth Summerfield, a radiologist from Stoke-on-Trent submitted the winning 50p design having been inspired by her friend who is a fencer. The coin features two figures fencing.
