In 1999 the US Mint released a coin that started a collecting craze across America. The issue was the Delaware State Quarter.
It was the first of 56 US State and Territory Quarters that were issued over the next 10 years – a set of coins that it is estimated half of all Americans have collected. That’s 150 million people.
But as they were technically intended for circulation it could sometimes take years for a collector to find them all in their change. And each coin was struck for just 10 weeks, never to be struck again, so finding every single one of these coins would take a monumental effort.
However, to save you from an almost impossible task we’ve secured a number of sets which contain all 56 of the State and Territory quarters. What’s more to make this US State Quarter Set even more impressive, each coin has been expertly plated in 24-carat gold and protectively encapsulated. Just watch the video opposite to appreciate this incredible set.
24-carat gold Plated
The obverse of each of the coins carry the familiar image of George Washington. Whilst the reverse commemorates the history, geography or traditions of the State or Territory as well as the date in which they ratified the Constitution or were admitted into the Union.
The first; celebrating Caesar Rodney's historic horseback ride in 1776, the Delaware Quarter depicts him upon his horse alongside the inscription ‘The First State; Delaware; 1787; 1999’.
The final Quarters, minted in 2009, were specially commissioned during the Bush administration. They commemorate the District of Columbia and the 5 US territories.
