1983 Proof Set - The First £1 Proof Set
Every year since 1970 the Royal Mint has released a limited number of annual sets with proof versions of the coins issued for circulation that year. Today you can own the 1983 Royal Mint Annual Proof set.
The 1983 Annual Proof set contains eight coins – including the definitive issues from the One Pound coin to the Half Penny in their original circulating metals. In 1983 a new One Pound coin was introduced, the first since the gold sovereign was replaced by the pound note. Your 1983 Proof Set includes the 1983 One Pound, making it the first proof set to include a Pound coin.
The very best of the Royal Mint’s coins
Each coin is struck to the Royal Mint’s highest standard Proof finish, using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks. Each coin can be appreciated in exquisite detail as every blank is struck more than once to ensure a clearer and finer design than the coins that you would find in your change.
Highly sought after by collectors
Because of the skill and time involved in striking proof coins they are struck to a strict limited edition. Proof sets represent the pinnacle of the Royal Mint’s craftsmanship, so they are in high demand amongst collectors.
Only a limited number available
This set is no longer available at the Royal Mint and can be difficult to track down on the secondary market. We only have a limited number available to offer but with demand high, we don’t expect these sets to be available for long.
