Limited Availability: The Boston Tea Party Coin & Stamp Set
On 16th December 1773, a group of American patriots snuck aboard several boats carrying shipments from the East India Company and threw 342 chests of tea overboard into Boston Harbor to protest taxes imposed by the British. In doing so, they destroyed almost £10,000 worth of tea at the time —worth about $1.7 million today!
This event soon became known as the Boston Tea Party and was a defining moment in early American history, sparking the American Revolution two years later.
Own one of the coins that may well have been in the pockets of those protesting patriots
Before the American Revolution, there were no coins struck in the American Colonies, so colonists had to use whatever foreign coins they could find. One of these happened to be the Copper Duit, struck by the Dutch East India Company and used as a penny!
Just 100 sets currently available
Struck between 1726 and 1794, these coins are over 200 years old so rarely appear in number, especially in the UK. However, we have been able to build up a small stock of the very coins that would have been in circulation in the US at the time of the Boston Tea Party.
What’s more, each coin has been paired with a set of historic US stamps that were issued to mark the Bicentenary of this iconic event almost 50 years ago.
Each set comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
Currently we have just 100 sets available, so you’ll need to act quickly to secure yours! Simply click ‘Add to basket’ now to make sure you don’t miss out.
