2012 UK 1oz Silver Britannia

The final issue of 'Britannia' Silver

Britannia has a long-standing history with British coins - having first appeared on Roman coins she was then revived by Charles II in 1672 and came to be a symbol of British sovereignty and dominance over seas.

In 1987 her image was elevated to gold coinage and a silver series followed its success in 1997.

The Silver Britannia celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2012 and this was the last ever coin to be struck from 'Britannia' Silver - a unique standard of 0.958 Silver which dates back to the late 17th Century.

The reverse of your 2012 issue features a classically inspired Britannia standing on a rock with her hair and gown flowing in the sea breeze. She is armed with a trident and shield and holds onto an olive branch in her left hand.
