The UK 2018 Representation of the People Act BU 50p Pack

To mark the 100th Anniversary of the passing of the Representation of the People Act, in 2018 The Royal Mint issued a commemorative 50p.

The Act which was passed in 1918, granted the vote to servicemen over the age of 19, to all men over the age of 21, and to women over the age of 30. Although it did not grant everybody the equal right to vote, it certainly formed the foundation which led to all women over the age of 21 achieving the same voting rights as men in 1928. A momentous occasion leading to the modern democracy we enjoy today.

The reverse design by Stephen Taylor depicts a celebratory soldier, working class man and suffragette queueing to cast their vote. The obverse features Jody Clark’s portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
