The end of the Second World War in 1945 did not mean the end of service for millions of service personnel.

Then, in 1946, ships began arriving home, carrying loved ones that families had waited years to see again.

Now, 80 years later, the Coming Home Poppy 50p Coin commemorates these long-awaited reunions and the relief, pride and joy they brought to communities across Britain.

Featuring soldiers returning on the ships and issued in support of the Royal British Legion, it pays tribute to the servicemen and women whose return reunited families and helped Britain begin the journey from war to peace.

Just 50,000 have been authorised. That means fewer than one in every 1,000 people in the UK will ever own one.
