A new UK £2 coin has been struck by The Royal Mint to celebrate one of the world’s best-loved authors – Jane Austen.
Although her books were largely unappreciated during her lifetime, readers across the world began a love affair that has now endured for 200 years. So it is entirely appropriate that she is celebrated on a UK coin.
However, of special note for this issue is its very low edition limit.
The equivalent UK £2 coin issued for the 350th anniversary of the Great Fire of London had an edition limit of 7,500 and is already SOLD OUT at the Mint.
The edition limit for the Jane Austen Silver £2 Coin has been set at 5,000 - 2,500 LESS. Clearly this means a large number of collectors look set to miss out.
Struck in 925/1000 Sterling Silver to an immaculate Proof finish, favoured by collectors, the reverse design features a silhouette of Jane Austen inspired by a portrait and the National Portrait Gallery, London. Designed by Dominique Evans, the silhouette is framed and surrounded by stripes as though on a Regency-era wall. The obverse features the Jody Clark portrait of Her Majesty the Queen.
Your coin will arrive ready to display in its Royal Mint Presentation Case with Certificate of Authenticity.
