Last year, to mark the 250th anniversary of the first great voyage of Captain James Cook, The Royal Mint announced a three coin series. And now the second coin in the series has been released.
Designed by Gary Breeze, this coin features the mast of Cook’s famous ship, HM Bark Endeavour. Below this sits a celestial image of the Transit of Venus – the initial reason for Cook’s voyage of discovery and an important step in the scientific aim to accurately measure the size of the solar system.
In fact, each reverse has been designed that when the coins are eventually placed together, like a puzzle, a complete larger design will be revealed. The next coin will be released in 2020.
Your Captain Cook £2 coin is certified as superior Brilliant Uncirculated quality, and comes protectively encapsulated in its unique official Royal Mint presentation pack.
