To celebrate the Commonwealth Games being held in Manchester in 2002, the Royal Mint issued a set of four commemorative £1 coins. The reverse of each coin features a female athlete holding her arms aloft in celebration and a cameo of a flag of one of the four countries that make up the United Kingdom.
