The Series E £5 Banknote was produced by the Bank of England. It was introduced in 1990, and featured George Stephenson, the engineer associated with early railway history. His portrait was replaced in 2000 with Elizabeth Fry.
The mature portrait of Queen Elizabeth II was engraved by Alan Dow, and incorporated the latest security devices.
