Own the famous four Silver Rupees of the British Empire

The Indian Rupee is one of the world's oldest currencies and savvy collectors are now starting to look eastwards to this coinage that has never before been seriously collected.

Rupees actually date back to the 6th century BC.  But for many centuries, Rupees were not generally standardised across India.  In fact, it was only when the East India Company took charge of the situation in 1835 that a uniform Rupee was minted.

After the Indian Rebellion of 1857, India became part of the Empire and rupees started to be minted under the authority of the Crown.  This carried on until independence in 1947.

The famous four silver rupees of the Empire

During the 19th and 20th centuries four silver Rupees were minted, each carrying the portrait of the British sovereign of the time. They are respectively, Victoria, Edward VII, George V, and George VI.

Now, what is so special about these particular coins?

A collector's goldmine (or more correctly a silvermine)

The thing is, no one has ever thought to collect them.  Even in India there are very few prominent coin collectors (although we hear coin collecting is taking off in a big way).

And these coins are actually quite difficult to get hold of.

We have managed to source just 50 collector sets. Each set includes:

•          4 x silver rupees. Each one weighs 11.66g and is minted from silver.

•          Each coin bears a Rupee design on one side together with the portrait of the British monarch of the time on the obverse.

•          Each set comes with a Certificate of Authenticity and a deluxe presentation case.

Only 50 sets

It is incredibly hard to find collectors sets of what is one for the world best-known currencies, but we have been lucky enough to secure just 50 of these sets for our collectors - 50 sets is not a limited edition, it is all we have been able to get hold of.

So don’t delay. Click ‘add to basket now’ to secure this set for your collection before it’s too late!
