Issued to mark the Coronation Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, this exquisite limited edition Gold £5 Coin has received full approval from Buckingham Palace and the Queen.
Significantly, it has been issued with a strict worldwide edition limit of JUST 95.
Struck in solid 22 carat Gold to an immaculate Proof finish, the reverse design is the work of accomplished ex-Royal Mint engraver, Mike Guilfoyle, whose portfolio boasts work from government mints around the world, including, The Royal Mint, The Central Bank of Ireland, The Mint of Norway and The Royal Dutch Mint.
Drawing from his significant experience, Mike’s design focuses on the floral emblems of the United Kingdom, set beneath the St. Edward’s crown, the very crown that was used at Queen Elizabeth II’s Coronation Ceremony at Westminster Abbey in 1953.
The design is so elegant that the decision was taken to intricately highlight the design with rich rhodium-platinum plate.
The obverse was designed by David Cornell who created an obverse design that epitomises the 60 years of the Queen’s reign through portraiture.
Few people could be more qualified than David to execute this exacting task. A Fellow of both the Royal British Society of Sculptors and Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA), David spent his early years as an engraver with the Royal Mint.
He has since been behind some of Britain’s most iconic coins, most significantly, the United Kingdom Princess Diana Memorial £5 Crown issued in 1999.
Not satisfied that a single portrait of the Queen could really encapsulate Her Majesty over 60 years, David chose to combine two portraits in a conjoined style. At the front of the design is a contemporary image of the Queen, calm and serene as we all recognise her today.
Sitting behind and slightly forward of the modern portrait is a depiction of the crowned young Queen – revealing the youth and hope that new the Queen Elizabeth represented to her nation and commonwealth.
The strength of its design, the historic importance of the Coronation Jubilee and its solid 22 Carat Gold status guarantee that collectors will be rushing to add this important release to their portfolio.
However, what sets the Coronation Jubilee Gold £5 Crown apart from other issues is the tiny edition limit of just 95 pieces.
