The Royal Mint has just issued this official new coin for the Paralympic Games with a tantalisingly low edition limit. Just 10,000 of these Sterling Silver coins will be made available – a tiny figure considering the significance of the Paralympic Games not just in the UK, but around the world too.
The design was chosen as the result of a nationwide competition – and the winner was named as Pippa Sanderson who ‘decided on a spoked wheel for manoeuvrability, a target for accuracy and a stopwatch for speed.’ She then ‘split the design into these elements and added the face of Big Ben to represent London.’ I’m sure you’ll agree it makes for a striking coin.
The fine visual qualities of Sterling Silver are brought to life by the painstaking Proof finish – where the mirrored background of the coin contrasts with the frosted relief. It’s a technique the Royal Mint has perfected over its 1000 year history, and is often referred to as ‘the collector’s favourite.’
Your coin also features the Official London 2012 Paralympic emblem in full colour – making it a true collectors’ item. Complete with Certificate of Authenticity and Deluxe Presentation Case.
