The British Gold Sovereign is one of the most respected and sought-after Gold coins in the world. And today, you have the opportunity to own a sovereign issued especially for the reign of Edward VII - issued between 1902 and 1910.
After the death of Queen Victoria in 1901, the success of the Gold Sovereign continued to flourish during the reign of her successor, Edward VII.
In fact, the King's title on the coin was expanded to include the abbreviation BRITT:OMN, meaning 'all of Britons' and signifying the extent of the Empire. At the same time the Royal Mint opened a branch in Ottawa, Canada to take advantage of the newly discovered gold in the area.
Edward VII was known as 'Edward the Peacemaker'; he travelled extensively and was crucial in negotiating alliances with Russia and France.
