2005 Battle of Trafalgar £5

On the 21^st October 1805, one of the greatest landmarks in British history, the Battle of Trafalgar, took place.

The encounter between the Royal Navy and the combined fleets of France and Spain off Cape Trafalgar on the Spanish coast was the culmination of the naval campaign of 1804-5 during which Horatio Nelson had scoured the Atlantic for the French fleet under Villeneuve.

The Royal Mint marked the bicentenary a £5 coin designed by Clive Duncan, depicting Nelson's flagship Victory leading the fleet into battle.

HMS Victory is in service to this day as the flagship of the Commander-In-Chief, moored in Portsmouth dockyard!

This coin is no longer available from The Royal Mint and, due to the difficulty in sourcing this issue, stocks are incredibly limited.
