Unlike normal collector coins, each NumisProof is struck on a specially selected blank, which is approximately 2 inches (5 cm) in diameter. Or to put it another way – 30% larger than the traditional collector’s crown or over twice the diameter of the pound coin in your pocket.
Each blank has then been expertly layered with pure 24 carat gold plate and has been highly polished to ensure the all-important mirrored background of a fine Proof Finish – the cherished standard of the traditional coin collector. Whilst the blank has been expertly prepared, other craftsmen in the Mint have been preparing the critical minting dies.
The historic obverse design has been carefully engraved by one of the United Kingdom’s leading sculptors before being used to create the tools that will ultimately go on to strike your NumisProof. Each final minting die is then sand blasted and polished to create the contrasting mirroring and frosting that epitomise proof coins.
As this will be the only Royal Diamond Jubilee any of us will ever experience, the NumisProof Advisory Committee decided that it would be only fitting to release a commemorative NumisProof issue celebrating our glorious Queen and the 60 years she has so graciously reigned over us.
Featuring on the reverse of your NumisProof is a stunning image of Her Majesty greeting the Great British public on an official goodwill visit to mark her Golden Jubilee 10 years ago. We're sure you’ll agree that the Advisory Committee’s decision to commemorate such a momentous Royal Event is more than appropriate in what is set to be a spectacular year for our nation.
