The UK’s First Ever Lunar Coin

For several years now the Chinese demand for collectable coins has been skyrocketing. The Australian Mint produces huge numbers of “lunar” coins to celebrate the Chinese New Year. Each year is associated with a particular animal.

Struck from one troy ounce of 999/1000 Silver, this Royal Mint first was designed by Wuon-Geon Ho, a British Chinese artist and printmaker, to celebrate the Year of the Horse.

The design brings together Chinese and British culture as it features a galloping horse alongside the famous Uffington White Horse which has been etched into the chalk hills of Oxfordshire.
