The Royal Mail has just announced the issue of a brand new 1st Class stamp for the UK, and to mark the event 9,500 commemorative covers have been made available. Featuring a larger than crown size gold plated medal, this is the perfect commemorative to celebrate one of the most important UK landmarks in the run-up to the Diamond Jubilee.
The new stamp features an iconic image of 10 Downing Street - the historic residence of the Prime Minister. Regardless of political party, the black Georgian door with its white numerals and iron lion knocker is instantly recognisable worldwide. In fact, Margaret Thatcher described the building as 'one of the most precious jewels in the nation's heritage'.
It's for these reasons that the Royal Mail has chosen to honour this famous old building with a new stamp. And when viewed on cover with the gold plated medal and the local commemorative postmark, it becomes something truly special. It's been produced as part of a series of stamps showcasing famous landmarks in England and the other home nations in the run up to the Diamond Jubilee this year.
The 22 Carat Gold Plated medal has been struck to a fine Proof finish, and features the image of 10 Downing Street in full colour. the reverse of the medal is reserved for the official logo of the Diamond Jubilee, making it one of the first and premier ways to commemorate the momentous occasion next year.
And with the special commemorative postmark applied, the edition limit is sealed. No more covers can ever be produced - yours is unique. It will arrive housed in an Archive Quality Display Page, perfect to keep it in pristine condition for generations to come. It will also come complete with an Information Card which is also a Certificate of Authenticity, guaranteeing your cover's edition limit and provenance.
