2016 UK WWI Army Circulation £2

In commemoration of the Centenary of the First World War, The Royal Mint has issued a series of specially commissioned £2 coins. This coin commemorates the 'Pals Battalions' and their tragic debut at the Battle of the Somme 100 years ago.

The tragic deaths of many soldiers in the ‘Pals Battalions’ typify the youth and spirit of so many who lost their lives in the Great War. In a fitting commemoration, this £2 coin symbolizes the camaraderie of these battalions and beautifully remembers the great sacrifice so many of them made.

The design features a modern interpretation of three ‘Pals’ side by side, inspired by the works of British WWI artist C.R.W. Nevinson.
